There’s a new modern twist on Farmhouse style: the hugely popular Farmhouse Chic. This style uses slatted woods and exposed beams like traditional Farmhouse style, but is far less rustic. Farmhouse Chic exhibits clean lines, smooth painted finishes, and neutrals paired with natural woods for a look that is warm and inviting. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite products, projects, and techniques for creating a farmhouse look in your home.

Farmhouse Colors

Farmhouse style interiors typically stick to a neutral color palette of warm whites, greys, and natural wood tones. Pops of black and navy add contrast, and keep things feeling modern.

Farmhouse Finishes

Farmhouse interiors should feel like they have been collected over time. We recommend varying your finishes so that no two pieces look the same.

Apply a Washed Finish to highlight natural wood grains and give pieces a weathered feel, a Basic Finish for a soft, hand painted look, or a Smooth Finish on more modern pieces.

You may also choose to leave some wood items unpainted and simply apply Jolie Finishing Wax to bring out the natural character of the wood.
