Soft furnishings. They can truly make or break the look and feel of a room. We often know what looks good (and, more importantly what doesn’t!) but achieving that effortless effect isn’t always easy.  Here, I am sharing my 5 foolproof top tips for styling your scatter cushions to maximise their impact on your interiors.

5 Top Tips for Styling Scatter Cushions

Identify your colour palette

Before rushing out and getting knee deep in scatter cushions, check out your current colour palette. Look at your walls, lounge, curtains, even rugs and carpet. What colours are dominant? Keep this in mind when you’re selecting your cushions. Try and choose one of two solid colours that will complement the rest of your colour scheme.

Don’t ignore ‘the vibe’

How do you want your space to feel? Bright and fun? Neutral and relaxed? Allow the vibe to inform the shades you choose within your colour palette and the way you style your cushions.

Play around with texture

While it pays to stick within your chosen colour scheme, you can think outside the square (literally) with textures, patterns and shapes. Mix things up to create a completely unique feel for your completely unique space.

Think about the style of the rest of your home

Are you traditional or modern? Boho or eclectic? Your chosen cushions and the way they are arranged and positioned should mirror the overall aesthetic of your space. A traditional space may look best with an even number and spacing of cushions while a more casual, contemporary room can utilise a funkier, mismatched vibe.

Don’t be afraid to change things up

Your style grows and evolves over time, as does the feel and tone of your space. Things like new furniture and even the seasons can influence how you want your home to look. Go with it! Don’t be afraid to shift things around to suit your lifestyle and what’s happening outside your window!
