We all love a good Swedish-style piece of furniture, with clean lines, soft colors, and elegant simplicity. Swedish pieces work beautifully in almost any space. For example, this Swedish sideboard from Ave Home was lovely to begin with. However, the color wasn’t quite right for this dining room space, which belongs to our founder and CEO, Lisa Rickert. That is to say, our mission today is to renovate this sideboard into a classic Swedish look.
Read on for details on how she achieved this classic Swedish look.

The Jolie range offers plenty of neutrals for a Swedish-inspired palette, but one of our favorites is Swedish Grey. Part of the Jolie Signature Neutrals collection, it was inspired by the finishes commonly found on 18th century Swedish Gustavian style pieces. It’s a soft greige color, not too warm, not too cool, and one of our most versatile neutrals.
Firstly, Lisa started by applying two coats of Swedish Grey to the sideboard, allowing the paint to dry between coats. She then applied a mix of Swedish Grey and Gesso White to the carved details and trim using a dry brush technique, giving the piece a lighter look and feel. The piece was then sealed with the Jolie Finishing Wax–Clear.
