I wanted to talk to you today about space medicine.
I’m in sunny San Diego. I’ll see if I’m able to show you. I’m looking at this amazing view from my hotel room.
Today, I want to talk to you about space medicine. Space medicine isn’t a new concept at all, but it is a concept that a lot of people don’t talk about.
Space medicine is the effect of your physical environment around you on your well-being.
On your physiology, on your mental health and on your ability to be productive and efficient and calm and cooperative and all those thing that you need at work and at home.
I wanted to share with you a story about the last time I came over to the states and what a huge difference I am feeling this year!
Last year, I came over to Dallas, Dallas was wonderful and Texas was and the people were wonderful. But, I was staying at hotel that, on reflection really gave me no space medicine at all.
The hotel itself had very poor light, the windows were quite small. There was no contrast in the interior, so it was full of oranges and tan colourings. It was just a room, I had the most awful stay in the hotel and I got very little work done. I felt very uninspired and I wasn’t really sure what it was all about, why I felt this way.
Now I have come over to San Diego for another event only a couple of months later. It’s not like it’s a big time between my wo visits but……..
the difference is palpable….
the difference is absolutely amazing. The room has a side of glass windows and it outlooks onto a bay where there’s an expanse of water and there’s greenery and there’s trees and there’s movement. The windows open and there’s a plethora of natural light and the ability to get airflow in here.
The other big difference I noticed is that there’s contrast in the interiors. It’s not a very monochrome, by monochrome, I don’t mean black and white. Those monochromes are wonderful.
It’s not a very one-tone interior. There’s lots of contrast and texture and interest in the interiors, which are behind me.
I’m also noticing that my productivity and my efficiency have increased along with my muse and my inspiration. Whilst I’m staying at this hotel the way I am approaching work is just epically different. So it was a really good time for me to introduce Space Medicine to you guys.
I’m feeling so different THANKS TO THE space medicine that the environment around me is prescribing.
Space medicine is based on the physiology and the medical research and science behind how light affects us, behind the colors…It’s also about how color affects us. And how it not only affects us as in whether we like it or not, but effects the way we interact in a space, effects how we’re feeling on a subconscious level and also about how furniture placement — they call it spatial arrangement effects the way we are in our spaces.
There’s probably a heap of you going, “Yeah, well so what? I like a color. I don’t like a color. The house is bright,” or, “Our house isn’t bright,” or workspace is or isn’t. If you have a look at all the amazing co working and inspiring workspaces around the world ….
- You look at Google Headquarters.
- You look at RealEstate.au
- Virgin HQ
These spaces ooze space medicine and there’s great research to show that that a well developed environment increases productivity, increases focus, increases efficiency, so you actually have control over yourself and your environment using space medicine.
This is a really cool powerful thing and we have some really cool things coming up about it.
In the meantime I am loving this space medicine that I’m getting in amazing San Diego.
For me, I’m putting it down to the natural lights and the interiors, the textures and the incorporation of living, breathing things into my space.
I hope you have gotten a little bit out of this and I hope you start to look around your interiors to see whether there’s any space medicine in there for you.
