French Provincial design originated from Provence in the south of France and soon became recognised as a lifestyle that is described as magical, romantic and warm.
French Provincial design is made up of elements of ornate carvings in furniture and soft timber textures, often whitewashed. It creates curvy silhouettes and shapes and combines warmer tones throughout the style.
In regards to decoration, there are lots of floral arrangements and patterns, layering through the use of texture and decorating in accessories and soft furnishings, warmer tones are usually associated with French Provincial design, ranging through the whole colour spectrum. Lots of white and cream tones are also used.
French Provincial design is very elegant and combines a lot of Victorian and country features, as often styles overlap.
For the more modern, structured worker, French Provincial probably isn’t your type of style. It is a very humble and romantic atmosphere for the relaxed and calm worker.
