I was so excited about the premier of Changing Rooms Australia!
It was such a hit in the 90’s and the first episode of the new series did not disappoint! Natalie Bassingthwaighte brings so much energy to the screen!
Designers, Jane Thomson and Tim Leveson took the reigns for the first room makeovers (Chris Carrol and I will be on soon, don’t worry!)
Jane started by transforming an unused downstairs space into a dance studio for couple Virginia and Glen’s three daughters and a gym for dad, Glen.
The ballet and gym were so classy – well done Jane! She took it from Marland to Danceland!
The detail in the battening was stunning, and I was so impressed with the amazing use of the old doors for the partial screen.
Unfortunately Virginia and Glen really struggled with the vintage feel downstairs compared to the renovated upstairs TV/teenage retreat room.
Virginia thought it was too ‘old worldly’.
I have to say good job getting rid of the brick in the TV room though Jane! Wow that wall mural is out there – so brave!
Virginia’s main reaction was so grateful though. ‘OH MY GOD’ is her phrase!
Despite not being huge fans of green, she did love the floor and the change of fabric on the chairs.
Tim’s design choices were genius! Homeowners Adam and Renee were so humble and sweet – they couldn’t wait to open the doors!
Their reaction was priceless. Don’t worry Renee, you just can’t disguise an ugly cry – I know from experience!!!!
Tim made great use of the gorgeous Sydney views from the new dining area and the kids room was so fun!
Also loved the music nook idea – that was clever. Hopefully it’s also insulated so people can’t hear from the other side – plus it can also be used as storage!
Love that both designers took the family into consideration, lead by the heart and made brave choices with colour and design.
I can’t wait to see what happens next! Be watching 10, Wednesday and Thursday nights at 7:30PM or catch up on 10Play!
