Morning, guys! Welcome. Today, I wanted to bring to you my favourite Friday tip.
Today, we’re going to be talking about how to keep on top of the clutter in our homes when we’re looking to sell or, really, it can be applied on an absolute everyday basis.
This is, inspired by the fact that school has just gone back in most places around Australia. Things are going to be getting pretty busy, pretty soon.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Naomi Findlay and I’m from NaomiFindlay.com.
I work with people on selling their houses for more through leveraging their presentation and their property preparation in order to make as much money as they can in as little possible time.
Back to my tip for today.
Many places around Australia at the moment have had all their children go back to school after the summer school holiday either yesterday, today or, in some cases like one of my kids, not until early next week.
What that means for most of us is that there’s going to be an increase of activity in the home.
- There’s going to be an increase of notes coming home
- There’s going to be school bags being dropped
- There’s going to be sporting stuff starting to start up again
- There’s going to be a lot of extra commitments that we have to accommodate and we have to meet.
Which means, often less time of an afternoon when you get home from work or after you’ve picked the kids up from school.
I wanted to share with you guys my number one tip. It does involve getting the children on board, so it does mean a little bit of work in coercing them or convincing them or encouraging them to join you.
My number one tip is each night at a time that works for your family, whether this be before they sit down for dinner, before they get in the bath at night, before you start to read books before bed. A lot of it will depend on the age group of your children.
The number one tip is to set a challenge.
It can be a two minute challenge, it can be a three minute challenge. You actually set a timer for it.
What you can do is you get everyone together in the center of the house for the challenge.
You’ll see who can collect the most items from around the house and get them into their room as quickly as possible or to the place that they are supposed to be living.
Whether this be a toy basket, whether it be a cubby hole for school bags in the garage. Whatever it might be.
You get everyone together, you set the timer — one, two three, go!
Everyone races around the house and puts away, in the correct locations or in their bedroom, which hopefully is a correct location, all the items that belong to them around the house.
The winner is the one that has the least items out of place within the home.
You can make it however works for your family. There may be a reward at the end of each de-clutter dash or you might total it up and at the end of the week, whoever is winning or whoever has won or whoever has achieved the most gets to choose a takeaway meal at the weekend.
Whatever works for your family and whatever your family values as a reward.
That’s my number one tip for keeping on top of clutter during this crazy time of year where everyone has gone back to school.
If you would like to get more information about these sorts of tips or about preparing your home for sale, head over to NaomiFindlay.com. We’ve got plenty of free stuff for you on the side. I will be back with you next Friday for another one of my top de-clutter tips.
If anyone has any questions, I’d love to talk to you about how we can manage our clutter in our house. You can pop to the Facebook page or you can email me direct. I’m more than happy to help. With four children and three companies, I absolutely have to make sure that I manage my clutter and that I keep on top of it.
I hope you have a happy Friday everybody. See you later!
