How Upgrading Your Bathroom with Colour is a Game Changer

When someone says “bathroom” what colour do you think of?

I bet, for most of you at least, your immediate reaction is white. White is accessible, it is clean, and most importantly, white is timeless. The bathroom is not an area most people put effort into to look homely and cosy.

When renovating, I’m sure you did not even think of purchasing anything to go in your bathroom that wasn’t white (apart from the tiles!). Why is this? Have we just become used to bathrooms being white? Do we expect all bathrooms do be white? Why can’t bathrooms be colourful?

Last century a popular trend was pale pink coloured bathrooms, not dusty pink and not baby pink, but somewhere in between. Thankfully, that trend has been and gone. That’s not to say that all colour in bathrooms look bad, some colour in bathrooms look amazing, but it is something that has to be thoroughly thought out and properly executed for the room to look amazing. Unfortunately, there is not a foolproof way to make colours in bathrooms look amazing, however, I do have some tips that can help inspire you to discover how to use colours in bathrooms.

Use Nature

Interpret this however you want because chances are, you have interpreted it correctly. Purchasing some leafy green plants, real or faux, is an amazing way to bring life and colour into your bathroom. Plants hanging from the ceiling, wrapped around mirrors or in pots, they look amazing however.

If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, you could use a banana or palm leaf wallpaper in your bathroom. Paired with pink, gold and mirrors, this wallpaper looks amazing!

Marmoreal Design

A twist on the traditional marble bathroom, marmoreal uses bright colours over a solid coloured backdrop to create a unique industrial-chic bathroom. The white design is much brighter and more inviting, whereas the black design is reminiscent of a starry night sky. Both designs are unique are bring a pop of colour into the bathroom.

Patterned Tiles Feature Wall

Keeping the floor and majority of the walls in a light solid colour, a patterned tile feature section of a wall is an amazing way to make a bathroom pop. Blue pattern tiles work a treat with this.

Pastels

If you are worried about your bathroom looking too full-on and overpowering, try opting for small square pastel tiles on the wall with either white or black grout. Pastel colours are close to white, having similar effects as white does, making the space look large and inviting. Pastel pinks, blues and greens work best with this.

Block Colours

Pairing white tiles with a bright solid colour painted on the wall is a great way to make the white in the space pop. You can go all out with this as the white will help to mute the colour. Hot pink, dark grey, bright orange and green all work well using this technique. Doing this emphasises the height and space in the bathroom and makes everything appear larger.

The challenge with using colours in the bathroom is that trends come and go, so make sure you love it. This is why the white trend has stuck around! Colourful bathrooms look amazing as they are a splash of something different compared to what we typically expect from a bathroom.
