10 Tips to a More Organised Closet

Getting an organised closet seems to be a never-ending quest in the lives of so many! We’ve all seen photos of beautifully organised wardrobes, where freshly pressed clothes hang neatly side by side, colour coordinated, together with straight rows of shoes and artfully folded t-shirts and shirts with crisp edges. Then you look at your jumbled mess of clothes and wonder how you can possibly achieve this Zen-like space of having a remarkably well-organised wardrobe. All it takes it time, some decision-making and a few tricks.

Here are ten nifty tips to help bring order to your wayward closet.

1. Organise according to type of clothing and/or colour

Your closet will appear more organised and appealing if you hang items according to style and colour. You can hang similar clothes together, such as dresses together and shirts. Groups of clothing can then be arranged by colour. By organising your clothing using this structure, your wardrobe will looking instantly neater and you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for immediately.

2. Store out-of-season clothes elsewhere

If you have a small closet space, you may want to store out-of-season clothes in vacuum-sealed bags under your bed or in storage boxes on top of cupboards. By not placing them in your wardrobe you allow fore more space for the clothes you’ll be currently wearing.

Use bins and baskets to keep all loose items. Bins are an obvious suggestion, but to create a more cohesive and organised flow, why not use them in groups of three and colour code it. If you’re lucky enough to have more room, consider storing your shoes in clear shoe-boxes. These keep them dust-free and durable. Alternatively, you can always use the box they originally came in.

There’s no need to spend excessively on wooden hangers. Slim-line flock covered hangers that are non-slip are much more effective. They help to fit more clothes into your wardrobe and come in a range of colours. If you’re still struggling to create more space, some hangers come with hooks, which allow you to add another hanger underneath it.

9. Organising drawers

When it comes to organising drawers it’s best to be selective about what goes where. Assign each drawer to a style of clothing or accessory for quicker access and to keep items from getting muddled up. For example, the lingerie drawer helps to keep your underwear looking neat and tidy, whereas the accessory drawer makes sure your jewellery won’t get lost and is visible for easy access.

10. Hook it up

Hooks can be a lifesaver if you’re at a loss on closet space. They can hold numerous items such as scarves, bags, robes and jumpers. Hooks can be installed on the inside of doors or from closet rods and wire shelves. It also allows for easy and quick access to everyday items.
